Louis Brody (Birth Name M'bebe Mpessa) was born 15 February 1892, in Douala, in the German colony of Kamerun, now Cameroon) and died 11 February 1952, Berlin, Germany was a notable black German actor, musician, and wrestler. His career began in the 1920s and lasted uninterrupted throughout the Nazi regime till his death in 1952. Brody engaged also in political work in favour of Afro Germans as part of the African Aid Organisation, established by and for Afro-Germans living in Germany. In 1938 he married a woman from Danzig. Unlike black and Jewish colleagues and friends of his, Brody survived the racist regime of the Nazis while remaining active and successful as an artist.
